Que sinceridade a do bêbado, porém frequentemente há a mentira para fazer balançar o coração do cidadão; o leite para as crianças, o remédio para a mãe etc, e há verdadeiros artistas neste ramo, certa vez na rua onde morei desde moleque em São Paulo, estava em casa quando ouvi gritos de uma vizinha.
Na frente de casa um homem caído no chao, tremendo, com um fio de baba correndo pelo canto da boca. Era um epilético, tinha uma receita médica de Gardenal no bolso.
Após recobrar lentamente a consciência este contou suas peripécias desde o Rio Grande Do sul até São Paulo.
Que fora roubado e não tinha mais dinheiro para voltar para casa, que fora até mesmo à assembléia legislativa e fora destratado por um tal de Afanásio Jazadi.
Fizemos uma vaquinha com os vizinhos e arranjamos uma carona para o pobre homem até o metro.
Alguma semanas a mesma vizinha veio contar-me que viu o mesmo "epiléptico" tremendo no chão de outro bairro.
No metrô barra funda também numa ocasião dei umas moedas para umas velhinhas simpáticas sendo logo a seguir alertado pelos seguranças que elas faziam parte de uma "gangue" de velhinhas. A verdade é que eu dei dinheiro para umas velhinhas que estavam em apuros, se elas estavam me enganando, o problema é delas, eu fiz a minha parte.

Excelente seu comentário que postou lá no estadão, entender a realidade é importante porém projetar as consequências que esta pode gerar é fundamental nos tempos atuais.
A palavra chave é o equilíbrio, até que ponto a caridade pode ser boa para a humanidade, com tantas desigualdades que ainda existe, apesar do tremendo cabedal tecnólogico que possuimos, esta é necessária, se quisermos preservar sempre, (independentemente das circunstâncias ou ate mesmo das implicações no atraso no desenvolvimento econômico que esta poderia causar), uma ética humanista que deve ser a pedra fundamental da evolução da sociedade humana em qualquer lugar, em qualquer tempo.
Temos fatos razoavelmente sólidos para ponderar acerca este tema, a caridade pode gerar dependência e estagnação dos individuo, porém sem esta, muitos podem sofrer horrores ou até mesmo perecerão, encontrar um ponto de equilíbrio é fundamental, pois não podemos simplesmente manter uma situação desfavorável, que pode inclusive se perpetuar, como ajudar sem causar mal ás gerações futuras, esse é um desafio a ser encarado.

a verdadeira caridade é apenas Amor. Não é um favor ou uma esmola, mas somente Amor. A pessoa que tem caridade dentro de si, não a tem porque deseja ser vista pelos outros ou mesmo por si mesma ou por Deus. O faz porque não pode fazer diferente. Não se trata de sentir-se "satisfeito" ou ter alguma recompensa íntima por se praticar a caridade, mas apenas de seguir uma tendência e necessidade intrínsecas, como, por exemplo, beber água. Faz parte dos fundamentos do ser. O espírito que anima a caridade chama-se generosidade.
Sempre haverá os mais e menos dependentes. Isso nunca mudou, nunca mudará.
Nos resta saber de que lado queremos ficar.

É uma visão mais profunda, que transcende à doação de bens materiais, nesse caso todos somos dependentes da caridade das pessoas que nos cercam.
Se essa caridade que menciona existisse entre todos, não precisariamos de polícia, advogados, juizes, estados..

A Caridade, o que é? Tenho aprendido com a ciencia Logosófica que é uma Lei Universal. Dar sem olhar quem pede, mas se der, saber o que a pessoa que recebeu fez com o bem recebido.
Essa atitude dá mais trabalho mas é mais humana, toma mais de nosso tempo mas colabora realmente com o outro. Tem gente que dá esmola pra ficar "livre" do outro, isso não é caridade.
Ser caridoso é cumprir com um ditado moral: se sei por que não compartilhar com quem nao sabe? Se me sobra por que nao dar a quem nao tem?
Quem tem conhecimento tem que compartilhar...é como a felicidade, é impossível ser feliz sozinho.

tudo na vida tem seus níveis ou graus. Me parece que o mais elevado -ou um dos mais- com relação à caridade, é aquele em que o indivíduo simplesmente dá (doa) porque isso faz parte de sua natureza intrínseca. Como as árvores frutíferas, que oferecem seus frutos, indistintamente. Quem quer, as colhe; as recebe. Se isso não acontecer, os frutos terão sido oferecidos do mesmo jeito.

Creio que cada um vê o dar a partir de seu próprio nível ou estágio interior. Alguns dão, como você disse, para se livrar dos pedintes; outros, porque, ao se identificarem com o pedinte, o fazem para exorcizar o medo que têm de cair na mesma situação. Outros o fazem para se mostrar para os outros, para mostrarem que são bons e abnegados. Há ainda os que dão por piedade, porque o coração fica condoído e algo os toca a agirem em prol das pessoas necessitadas. E há os que dão por pura felicidade, que não têm pena de quem está diante de si em necessidade e vêem o outro como alguém que faz parte da grande cadeia do amor. E nesta cadeia, dar é o que de mais natural existe e ocorre. Não há como agir diferente.

É isso mesmo, a cara de alegria do ajudado é a maior recompensa.
Mas o mais difícil mesmo é acompanhar o que está sendo feito com o objeto da caridade, mas parece-me ser outra fase, um aprofundamento.
Se dermos o dinheiro já estaremos colaborando, agora, se questionarmos e falarmos algo, um conselho, ou seja, nos involvermos como os problemas daquela pessoa, com certeza esta ficará, pelo menos naquele momento, mais reconfortada do que se houvesse apenas ganho uma esmola.
É exatamente isso que uma política de inclusão social também deve fazer, não somente dar dinheiro, o que é bom, é fundamental o acompanhamento para que não seja necessário mais dar esmola no futuro, é o ideal.

Eu havia mandado um comentário há dias atrás, mas acho que não enviei direito.
Mas o assunto é atemporal. Como vc e outros já disseram faça a sua parte, em sua casa, com seus vizinhos e com quem você acha que necessita, principalmente fornecer um pouco de cultura pois nosso grande problema é a educação, e isso esmola não resolve só estimula e produz o famoso acomodamento e conformismo brasileiro.
Mas oferecer ou doar sem pensar nas necessidades de quem recebe, é sómente uma maneira de livrar-se de inutilidades de sua casa. Pois como exemplo moro na praia e não faz sentido doar casacos de pele. Mas livros, e trabalho voluntário de ensino aos jovens, crianças e adultos, faz todo sentido. Ensinar a pescar, não dar o peixe.
Isso ajuda o próximo e dá um sentido a sua vida.
Como fazer uma Copa do Mundo,num pais onde nem existem cadeias adequadas, e pessoas com capacidade para orientar os necessitados, o povo tem fome de saber, mas o dinheiro vai ser gasto em estádios de futebol que serão elefantes brancos e distrairão o povo por mais um tempo de seus problemas reais.
Escolas, centros de recuperação, ajude os mais próximos a interessar-se pelo futuro, se sabe como despertar e tem a capacidade de atender esse interesse , faça-o.
